Honestly. . i consider myself as FRESHMAN in this kind of activity, it's my first time to have this kind of work i'm a transferee student, came from USeP Tagum Campus. . actually i never experience this kind of activities in USeP Tagum Campus, but i'll try my best to do what is good to me and to others. . . to improve and to gain more knowledge.

My comment for the first meeting we have in the subject Management Information System. w3w it was so very coOl and it was fun. . but we can't change the fact that we are still very nervous and slight afraid and we still having some adjustment about the environment of the Campus. . cuz i'm a transferee student in -Tagum Campus- third year IT.

For our first meeting we tackle about what (MIS) Management Information System is. Prof. Randy S. Gamboa is very good and strick Prof. he is kind of a Prof. who love to throw some question time to time when he is having a lecture. If your not listen then you better watch out cuz prof. Gamboa is to throw some question to those student who are not listening well.

well interms of Learnings from the way he deliberate the topic we have. . well his so goOd simple but it has a broad meaning. . . he love to throw some question in order for us to know much better and to know what is wrong and right.

First Prof. Gamboa Discuss Management, What is Management and the 4 keys of Management. Management impliesthat someone or somebody needs to be manage. 4 keys of Management are "Planning, Directing, Organizing, and Controlling" then he discuss about what are the components of IT, IS and MIS.

first we must know what IS and Leadership is:

Information System (IS) - refers to a system of people , data records and activities that process the data and information in an organization, and it includes the organization's manual and automated processes. In a narrow sense, the term information system (or computer-based information system) refers to the specific application software that is used to store data records in a computer system and automates some of the information-processing activities of the organization. Computer-based information systems are in the field of information technology. The discipline of business process modelling describes the business processes supported by information systems.

Leadership has been described as the “process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”. A definition more inclusive of followers comes from Alan Keith of Genentech who said "Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen."

According to Jules Masserman, United States psychoanalyst and professor of the Chicago University, Leaders must fulfill three functions~~ The Leader must provide for the well-being of the lead. The leader or would be leader must provide a social organization in which people feel relatively secure and that this leader must provide his people with one set of beliefs.

Leadership is one of the most salient aspects of the organizational context. However, defining leadership has been challenging. The following sections discuss several important aspects of leadership including a description of what leadership is and a description of several popular theories and styles of leadership. Information systems (IS) leadership roles have undergone fundamental changes over the past decade. Despite increased interest in recent years, little empirical research on IS managers has been done. This article presents results from a survey in Norway. The survey collected data on general leadership roles such as informational role, decisional role and interpersonal role, as well as on specific IS leadership roles such as chief architect, change leader, product developer, technology provocateur, coach and chief operating strategist.

The Canadian academic, Henry Mintzberg who had trained as a mechanical engineer, wrote his PhD thesis at the MIT Sloan School of Management analyzing the actual work habits and time management of chief executive officers (CEOs). In 1973, Mintzberg's thesis on the nature of managerial work was adopted as a study and published for a wider audience.


Mintzberg's empirical research involved observing and analyzing the activities of the CEOs of five private and semi-public organizations. Previous management behavior studies had concentrated on team and subordinate behavior or organizational structure rather than on the day-to-day reality of managerial behavior.

The Six IS Leadership Roles
1. Chief architect. The chief architect designs future possibilities for the business. The primary work of the chief architect is to design and evolve the IT infrastructure so that it will expand the range of future possibilities for the business, not define specific business outcomes.
2. Change leader. The change leader orchestrates resources to achieve optimal implementation of the future. The essential role of the change leader is to orchestrate all those resources that will be needed to execute the change program.
3. Product developer. The product developer helps define the company’s place in the emerging digital economy. For example, a product developer might recognize the potential for performing key business processes (perhaps order fulfillment, purchasing or delivering customer support) over electronic linkages such as the Internet.
4. Technology provocateur. The technology provocateur embeds IT into the business strategy. The technology provocateur works with senior business executives to bring IT and realities of the IT marketplace to bear on the formation of strategy for the business. The technology provocateur is a senior business executive who understands both the business and IT at a deep enough level to integrate the two perspectives in discussions about the future course of the business.
5. Coach. The coach teaches people to acquire the skill sets they will need for the future. Coaches have to basic responsibilities: teaching people how to learn, so that they can become self-sufficient, and providing team leaders with staff able to do the IT-related work of the business.
6. Chief operating strategist. The chief operating strategist invents the future with senior management. The chief operating strategist is the top IS executive who is focused on the future agenda of the IS organization. The strategist has parallel responsibilities related to helping the business design the future, and then delivering it.

(MIS) Management Information System

Managenent Information System first we must know what is Management Information System is,
Management- the managing information technology emphasizes the quality, strategic business value and security of an organization's information system.

Information System- can be organized combination of People, Hardware, Software, Communication Networks and Data Resources that collects, transform and disseminates information in an information. People have relied on information system to communicate with each other using a variety of physical devices(Hardware). Information processing instructions and procedures(Software), communications channel(Network), and stored data(Data Resources) since the dawn.

Management Information System (MIS)- is an integrated, computer base, user watching system that provides information for supporting operations and management decision making functions. Integrated means centralization of files across applications and elimination of redundancies.


Dr Gamboa said in our first day class the word "Management" is "implies that someone or somebody needs to be manage, and Management have the 4 keys and this are the Planning, Directing, Organizing and Controlling.

Management Information System

It is the right Description "Management Information System" we all know what is the meaning of MIS and the component of the MIS = Hardware + software + peopleware, it doesn't show that this simple component means that the Hardware is much more superior than Software and Software is superior to Peopleware the symbol "+" means it is comulative so therefore there will be a posibility that maybe Hardware, Software and Peopleware are balance. Each of them may benefit each other.


-expectation in this subject

i knew this subject is not easy, more work and challenge to be accomplish. . but the thing is more knowledge and more experience we can gain. . part of college life. . . .

my first day class in Management Information System 1 under Dr. Randy S. Gamboa w3w was also my first blood LATE in class w3w.' "Late = Sing" "kumanta ako pero d feel ni sir ang song ko haha na pag kamalan pa na nag TULA ako hehehe" how nice first blood. .


At first hmpt. . my comment for my first day class at Dr. Gamboa, Management Information System Subject. wew it was so very nervous and at the same time hehe excited hmpt.. mix emotions and feelings cuz it was my first time here in OBRERO Campus. I am a transferee student third year IT hmpt. . . came from TAGUM Campus.
